The L.A. riots and Vincent Chin case were such monumental events in Asian American History because they both led to the coming together of Asian Americans to fight for their rights and against inequality. The L.A. riots of 1992 were fueled by racial conflict and social unrest. Many Korean business owners were affected dramatically when their shops were targeted and destroyed because Koreans owned most of the businesses in Los Angeles at the time. In the aftermath, the events of the riots forced people to look at the reasons for the riots and ultimately address and deal with the issue of cultural differences.The Vincent Chin case led to the infuriation of Asian Americans when the two white men who beat him to death were acquitted and let free on probation. Asian Americans then decided to stand up and fought for their rights as Americans and for the justice of Chin, ultimately winning the case. Both events brought unity to Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and helped them to become the strong communities they are today.
